How the GAD-7 Works
The Generalised Anxiety Disorder 7-item scale was created by Drs Spitzer, Kroenke and Williams and has since become a gold-standard brief screening tool. It captures how frequently core anxiety symptoms have appeared over the past fortnight, producing a score that helps both you and a professional gauge the severity of your experience.
When Worry Becomes Something More
A certain amount of worry is a normal part of being human -- it can even be protective. Anxiety crosses into clinical territory when it becomes persistent, feels disproportionate to the situation, or starts steering your decisions and behaviour. Physical signs such as muscle tension, a racing pulse, digestive upset or difficulty sleeping often accompany psychological worry.
Consider Reaching Out If You Notice
- Worry that feels relentless and difficult to set aside
- Avoiding places, people or activities because of anxious feelings
- Physical tension, restlessness or trouble sleeping linked to stress
- A growing sense that anxiety is running the show in your daily life
